Spring Refresh: Breathe New Life Into Your Home

Writer: Jennifer JanewayJennifer Janeway

Just as the weather begins to warm up, the earth comes alive again, and you're inspired to bring your home into the season of refreshment and rejuvenation.  A well-designed home should evolve with the seasons! Spring is the perfect time to embrace fresh colors, airy textures, and nature-inspired elements to create a light and uplifting space. Read our tips on how you can refresh your home with spring style!

1. Embrace a Fresh Color Palette

Spring is all about soft, vibrant hues that reflect the beauty of nature. Swap out winter’s deep, moody tones for a fresh, inviting palette!

Pastel Accents – Soft blues, blush pinks, and sage greens evoke a sense of tranquility. Using a pastel paint color as an accent in your home can brighten the space while still timelessly adding color to the design.

Warm Neutrals – Steer away from cold undertones when it comes to neutrals and embrace creams, beiges, and soft whites to create an airy, sunlit feel. Be sure to match the undertones to create a cohesive look - white isn't always just white, after all!

Floral & Botanical Prints – Florals for spring are a go-to! These botanical patterns can be introduced through throw pillows, area rugs, wallpaper, and more. For a more subtle approach, you can show floral prints on smaller textiles like aprons, tea towels, and placemats.

2. Lighten Up Your Fabrics & Textures

Spring calls for breathable, lightweight materials that add softness and elegance to your home.

  • Blankets and Pillows - One of the easiest ways to refresh for spring is by swapping out your pillows and throws. Replace faux fur, wool, or velvet throws for cotton or linen.

  • Lighten up the Window Treatments - Draperies are a great way to add texture, length, and volume control to a room, but a heavy fabric is more suited for a cozy winter style. Swap out dark, heavy draperies with sheer, gauzy linen panels to invite in natural light.

  • Natural Materials - Add woven textures like rattan, jute, or cane for a fresh, organic touch. These can be added through furnishings and window treatments, but also using accessories made from these types of natural materials. One of our favorite ways to incorporate natural materials is through grass cloth wallpaper!

3. Bring the Outdoors In with Greenery

Nothing says "spring" like fresh greenery! Plants not only enhance your home aesthetically but also improve air quality and bring an organic element into your space.

  • Indoor plants – Consider trailing pothos, snake plants, or peace lilies for a low-maintenance plant! Don't be afraid to elevate your greenery with stylish planters and plant stands. From ceramic to metallic, there are so many options to fit your home's aesthetic.

  • Fresh-cut flowers – Tulips, Daffodils, or Peonies are some of my favorite flowers! Pair them with a cute vase, and it adds instant charm to a space. I almost always have a vase full of flowers or greens on my kitchen island - a little dopamine boost while doing dishes!

  • Herb gardens – A sunny window sill can be the perfect place for an indoor herb garden. Pretty to look at, smells good, and you have fresh herbs and lettuce at the ready! If you don't necessarily have a green thumb, check out hydroponic options that come with their own light source and require minimal maintenance.

4. Declutter & Organize for a Fresh Start

Spring is the perfect time to streamline your space and refresh your home’s organization.

  • Invest in chic storage solutions – Use woven baskets, stylish bins, or open shelving to keep spaces tidy while adding a design element. Hooks are another great way to add stylish convenience to a space. There's no fuss of a hanger, and they come in a variety of styles, from rustic to modern! Heavy traffic areas like mud rooms are the perfect place to incorporate these items.

  • Refresh your entryway – Update your entryway with a console table, a vase with spring florals, fresh artwork, or a fun mirror, and add a pastel colored or patterned runner for a soft welcoming spot. This creates a lovely welcoming for guests and completes the space!

5. Elevate Your Scents

The power of scent is unmistakable; it has the ability to transport us to another time and place. (This is very helpful to remember when I'm seeing snowflakes in March.) Replace your spicy, warm fragrances with lighter scents like lilac, lavender, and rose to invoke the floral scents of spring.
